[Saudi Arabia] KAUST Discovery Scholarship 2008

The KAUST Discovery Scholarship is a general scholarship program King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This program is designed to ensure that any very talented students who had reason and the right to enroll in a KAUST will receive full financial support, while at university. Those who receive scholarships Discovery receive the full support of learning, living stipend, a summer enrichment programs and career.

KAUST will offer Discovery Scholarships to all KAUST students – an exceptional level of support intended to attract gifted and talented students from Saudi Arabia and from other countries around the world.

KAUST will offer a pre-enrollment version of this general scholarship program to students attending first-university or bachelor’s degree programs. KAUST will provide financial support to pre-enrollment Discovery Scholarship recipients at their home institutions prior to the University’s opening. Upon graduation, these students will enter KAUST as master’s degree students in September 2009 and 2010 to complete their graduate studies on a fully funded scholarship.

Recipients of the KAUST Discovery Scholarship represent future leaders in science, engineering and technology.

Students may apply for a KAUST Discovery Scholarship directly, or they may be nominated by a professor at their institution.

Scholarship Benefits

  • For the remainder of your first university or bachelor’s degree program of study, you will receive:
    • Full tuition to complete your first university or bachelor’s degree at your current institution
    • A living stipend based on your current city and country of residence
    • An allowance to purchase text books
    • An allowance to purchase a laptop.
    • All economy class travel costs associated with your participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities throughout the remainder of your first university or bachelor’s degree program. In particular, travel associated with the following activities:
      • Scholarship award ceremony event
      • Global workshop at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia
      • Regional leadership workshop
  • Upon the completion of your first university or bachelor’s degree program, you will receive:
    • Admission into a master’s degree program upon meeting the program’s admission requirements at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia.
    • A full scholarship at KAUST, including tuition, housing and travel costs

Eligibility

All applicants must demonstrate proven leadership in research and academic involvement. At a minimum, you must have the following academic qualifications:

  • Official university record documenting academic achievement at the highest level
  • Current enrollment in a first university degree (bachelor’s) program in a KAUST-related field of study
  • 550 TOEFL PBT or 213 TOEFL CBT, 79-80 iBT, or 6.0 on the IELTS for non-native English speakers
  • Proven research interest and/or leadership potential
  • Ability to enter a master’s program at KAUST in September 2009 or after
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a minimum major-field-of-study GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent
  • 80 credit hours completed, or equivalent by the end of 2008
  • Ability to take graduate courses in English

[Ireland] EC-funded Scholarships for Citizens of ENP Countries and Russia to Obtain an MA in European Studies
The European Commission has launched a call to fund scholarships for the study of MA programmes in European integration. The scholarship of the European Commission covers up to €20,000 per student per academic year to cover fees and subsistence costs. For details on the scholarship, see this link. In total, approximately 150 scholarships will be available. The UCD School of Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin invites applications to its MA in European Studies from citizens of European Neighbourhood Policy countries or Russia, who possess a first academic degree in either the social sciences or humanities (BA), and are in command of the English language. Interested students should apply to the UCD School of Politics and International Relations through the normal channels by Wednesday, 28 May 2008, and normal entry procedures apply. UCD will then recommend to the European Commission successful applicants to our MA programme who also fulfil the scholarship criteria. The European Commission will make the ultimate decision on the distribution of scholarships.

Embassy of Japan began offering scholarships for Indonesian students wishing to study at Japanese universities as research students in the 2009 school year in accordance with the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship program. [Australia] Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (EIPRS)
Applications are open to citizens of all overseas countries (excluding New Zealand), who are commencing full-time study in 2009 for a higher degree by research. No age restriction applies for applicants. To be eligible to apply for the EIPRS, you must: be an overseas student who is eligible to undertake a higher degree by research candidature within UTS’s areas of research strengths, and be able to commence in full time enrolment for the first time in 2009, unless: you commenced your HDR during 2008 but, due to the timing of your applications and subsequent enrolment were not able to apply for the 2008 EIPRS, or you have terminated any previous HDR enrolment within six months of commencement not hold a research qualification regarded by UTS as equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research by Master degree, not hold a research qualification regarded as equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Master’s degree, and not have held an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship within the two years prior to commencing the EIPRS, and not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition fee is a component under any scholarship scheme to which the Australian Government makes a substantial contribution Eligibility for admission PhD Degree Applicants shall: hold a Bachelor’s degree with First or Second Class Honours, Division 1 or a Master’s Degree by research of the University of Technology, Sydney; or possess an equivalent qualification. These specialized DAAD program provides up to five German Studies Research scholarships to qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are nominated by their department / program chairs. The grant can be used for short-term research (one to two months), either in North America or in Germany. The program was designed to research and promote the exploration of the cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and contemporary affairs of a German inter-and multidisciplinary perspective. Academic Level: Bachelors Masters Fields of Study: Culture Economics German Languages / Linguistics Literature Political Science/Politics Social Policy Amount: $1,500 to $2,500 Criteria: Eligibility Requirements: From the master’s level graduate students in humanities and social sciences or earning a certificate to work on a project in German studies can be nominated for the award by their department and / or the program director. Applicants must have completed a minimum of three courses in German Studies (literature, history, politics, and other areas) at the time of appointment. Doctoral Students in the humanities and social science disciplines in the process of preparing their thesis proposals on German modern subjects may be nominated. Our research group is carrying research in printed electronics which will be the preferred manufacturing process for RFIDs, flexible panel systems, displays, and sensors in future. Research Area for PhD Studentship Material Science Engineer Studying nano-materials, nano-physics and nano-device applications with respect to electrostatic inkjet printing. Study of the polymer based thin films, substrate property, chemical properties of ink and role of nano particles in electrostatic printing will be of main focus of research. Knowledge of laser technology for printing systems, curing method and emerging technologies in printed electronics will be of added advantage. Research Area for PhD Studentship Mechanical Engineer Designing of multi-nozzle inkjet system for printed electronics which will include flow regulators, pumping system and control sensors. In addition to this the students is required to perform numerous experiments for the evaluation of proposed printing method. Strong background in controls and micro-fabrication is necessary. Research Area for PhD Studentship Electronics Engineer Control of the multinozzle mechanism and control of the substrate with respect to the printing parameters to print different types of electronic devices through Electrostatic Inkjet Printing System. Knowledge of the programming language and machine interface is necessary. Research Area for MS Studentship Computer Engineer Strong knowledge of C++ and MFC programming is required. The person will be working on the integration of the systems and real-time control.
